Soot with PA IPL & JEA

This meeting, recorded Wednesday, August 17, 2022, is part of PA IPL‘s ongoing partnership with Jewish Earth Alliance (JEA).

TOPIC:
Soot

SPEAKER:
Christopher D. Ahlers, Staff Attorney for the Clean Air Council

This joint session with JEA focuses on how the current standards for the deadly and dangerous particulate matter pollution, or soot, set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are outdated and insufficient. It’s time for the EPA to update these pollution limits to the strongest science-based standards to ensure cleaner air for families, advance environmental justice, and protect public health and the climate. At this meeting Christopher D. Ahlers, Staff Attorney for the Clean Air Council, will give us an overview of what particulate matter pollution—or soot—is, what causes it, and what individuals and businesses can do to reduce it. He will also discuss the recommendations for the revised standards.

JEA provides ongoing training and templates for monthly letter writing campaigns to local, state, and federal officials. The meetings provide a template, information, and guidance for all those who are interested in amplifying the message of Climate Justice.

TOPIC:
How the FY2023 Federal Budget Needs to Address Climate Solutions

SPEAKER:
The Rev. Mitchell C. Hescox, President/C.E.O. of The Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN)

Inspirational speaker: Amani Reid

This joint session with JEA focuses on how to finance climate solutions at the federal level. Given the recent ruling by SCOTUS, limiting the EPA’s power, we will focus on how the US Congress can and must take some control over climate solutions. One immediate way is to pass a very climate friendly budget. Since Congress must pass the budget each year, we hope this bill will get passed.

National Infrastructure Bank with PA IPL & JEA

This meeting, recorded Wednesday, May 18, 2022, is part of PA IPL’s ongoing partnership with Jewish Earth Alliance (JEA).

TOPIC:
National Infrastructure Bank

This joint session with JEA focuses on the work being done to introduce the infrastructure bank in Pennsylvania. Members of the National Infrastructure Bank Coalition present information about the work it has been doing in PA to gain support for HR 3339. This bill creates a National Infrastructure Bank to facilitate the long-term financing of infrastructure projects. One of the co-sponsors is Dwight Evans (D-PA 3).

There is broad and growing grassroots support for HR 3339 across the state as evidenced by the large number of private citizens, elected state and local officials, labor organizations, small business owners, and rail advocates, who are volunteering their time and effort to get HR 3339 the support it needs in from Congress. A National Infrastructure Bank would help fund and maintain green infrastructure necessary for sustainability.

As the Covid-19 pandemic, the breakdown of the domestic supply chain, and the rapid rise of inflation have converged to create a “perfect storm” of economic dislocation, it has created a unique opportunity to reverse decades of neglect of critical infrastructure, by rebuilding manufacturing and the American workforce.

This meeting, recorded Wednesday, April 20, 2022, is part of PA IPL’s ongoing partnership with Jewish Earth Alliance (JEA).

TOPIC:
Clean Energy and Energy Independence

This joint session with JEA focuses on how clean energy produced in the USA is the path to true energy independence. Katie Blume, Political Director of Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania, is our speaker. The war in the Ukraine has exposed how vulnerable we are by continuing to rely on imported dirty energy and the gas and oil companies are exploiting the current situation for their own profits. Katie talks about PA-wide and national efforts to help people understand we must quickly transition to clean energy and how to answer people who believe we must drill more gas and oil. She also discusses efforts to get clean energy initiatives in the Federal reconciliation bill.
