Learn how to take a piece of stem or branch (usually about ¾ inch in diameter and 18 inches in length) from one of our water-loving native plants, and grow a new tree when we drive it into a streambank. It is an economical way of planting lots of trees along environmentally compromised streams, and just driving in the livestake has much less effect on the structural integrity of the streambank than digging any kind of hole to plant a rooted seedling.
Check out this link for further information on livestaking.
You can bring your own loppers and/or hand clippers if you prefer, but we will have equipment provided by ClearWater and Chesapeake Conservancies available if you do not have your own.
Dress in layers (it may be chilly), and waterproof footwear is a plus.
Training in cutting and preparing livestakes will be available for those who have not done it before.
Email Ron Porter and Emma Keele if you would like to attend or have any questions.
