PHILADELPHIA-Climate Strike-Rally and March for a Bold Climate Action!

Location: Thomas Paine Plaza, 1401 John F Kennedy Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19102
Time: 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.

This event is being organized by a coalition of young people and allies from Philly Climate Strike, the Sunrise Movement Philadelphia Hub, Fridays for Future, and 350 Philly. Speakers will include Philadelphia residents already being impacted by the climate crisis, public school students enduring toxic school buildings, and more.

This rally and march is part of the Global Climate Strikes that were sparked by young people deciding to take bold action for their futures and the future of life on our planet. In Philadelphia, after over 3,000 people turned on for the Global Climate Strike on 9/20/2019, youth will take the streets again on 12/6 to demand a right to a livable future, and we’re inviting you to strike with us.

Youth leaders write “our demands are for Philadelphia elected officials to commit to fighting the climate crisis by implementing a municipal Green New Deal that includes:

  • A ban on new fossil fuel infrastructure in the city of Philadelphia.
  • A just transition with new, well paying union jobs for workers displaced by the move away from fossil fuels.
  • An end to the ten-year property tax abatement and the use of new funds to make Philadelphia public school buildings non-toxic.
  • Passing “Right to Breathe” legislation, starting with a ban on large scale industrial use of hydrofluoric acid.”
