Our Programs
At Pennsylvania Interfaith Power & Light, we educate and equip congregations and community groups, empowering people of faith and conscience to take action, grow climate resilience, and foster civic participation. Read below to learn more about our programs!
Roots, Branches, & Hands
Roots, Branches, & Hands is a multifaith partnership approach to enhancing tree equity in Pennsylvania. This program supports education, leadership development, coalition-building, and community resourcing to help protect and expand canopy.
SACRED GROUNDS
In partnership with the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), PA IPL is helping communities become Sacred Grounds. The program focuses on equipping communities with skills and resources to steward their grounds, create gardens, improve water quality, and foster climate resilience.
Wonderful Watersheds
Our region spans 6 watersheds – can you name them all? Watershed stewardship is one way that people of faith and conscience can take meaningful action that aligns with their values. Through education, capacity building, and resourcing we are helping communities take their next watershed step. In Philadelphia, PA IPL is connecting communities of faith with financial and technical support to install Green Stormwater Infrastructure on their properties.
Just Transition
Supporting energy efficiency and renewable energy has been part of our identity from day one. Our just transition program is focused on cultivating energy stewardship that supports a just transition. You can learn more about our current projects throughout Pennsylvania.
Voice Your Values: Embody Hope, Act for Change
Voice your Values: Embody Hope, Act for Change is PA IPL’s branch for advocacy. By voicing our values, we embody hope for a greener, brighter, and more just future, and we are acting for change, one priority at a time. Each year, we will focus on a different advocacy priority identified by our network. Over time, we will build a wealth of resources responding to a variety of the many facets of environmental justice from a moral perspective.
Interfaith Spiritual Care
Our Interfaith Spiritual Care program is a place for interfaith connection and grounding. This program nurtures our souls and spirits by addressing the need for community centered around the climate crisis and the ecological destruction we face in our day-to-day lives. Led by two long-time PA IPL dedicated volunteers, the spiritual care program provides space for collective processing and cultivating hope in the face of crisis. You can register for upcoming programs by visiting our events page.
PA Plants Native!
PA Plants Native! grew as a collaboration with the Ten Million Trees program. Between 2020 and 2025, our volunteer network planted a quarter of a million trees across Pennsylvania! The program sought to empower ordinary people to take action to heal our planet by building community, providing access to native trees, and encouraging volunteerism. This program has now matured into our Roots, Branches, & Hands program.

Civic Engagement
Civic participation is an essential part of the fabric of democracy. Our resource Faith in Public Life is meant to be a container for reflection, conversation, and connection at the intersection of faith and civic engagement. Our staff and fellows crafted this resource with love and with the intention to learn together, foster community, and build momentum within the interfaith climate movement.

Other ways to engage
Annual Convening
The Annual Convening (formerly Conference) has been a core offering of Pennsylvania Interfaith Power & Light (PA IPL) for many years. It serves as a way to connect passionate individuals across the state, strengthen multifaith community, and build momentum to address climate change as a moral issue here in the Keystone State.
Annual Bike/Hike
Our bike & hike program is one of our two key programs each year. Participants are invited to fundraise with us by setting goals for movement and raising funds in their communities. Supporters can follow along and donate to our bikers and hikers!
Membership
Membership is a core part of the PA IPL structure – at present, congregational members help elect our board members and provide financial support. You can learn more about PA IPL’s membership here.
Visits & Workshops
Members of the PA IPL team are available for speaking engagements and workshop presentations on a variety of subjects including watersheds, pollinators, climate resilience, community organizing, and more. Reach out to info@paipl.org to get a conversation started about PA IPL coming to visit your congregation or community.
