A light show at sunset
The Skyspace at Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting is an installation designed by light artist James Turrell.
At sunset, a section of the roof of the meetinghouse will slide open for a “Greet the Light” program, a meditative and prayerful experience of the wonder of light — both natural and human-inspired. (If the weather has other plans, there will be an alternative program.)
Participants lie on their backs to view the light show. With the ceiling open to the March sky we recommend dressing warmly or bringing a blanket to be extra cozy. You can also bring a yoga mat if you have one.
We’ll join international Earth Hour at 8:30 p.m.
At 8:30 pm we’ll continue in the glow of solar lanterns when the electricity goes off to mark the ninth annual international Earth Hour.
Originated by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is a world-wide movement in which individuals, communities and businesses throughout the world are invited to turn off their non-essential lights on the same day from 8:30 pm to 9:30 as a sign of commitment to the planet.
Weather permitting we’ll close the evening with a candle-lit outdoor ritual.
