Now Available: Video of August 16 Meeting in Partnership with JEA!
This meeting, recorded Wednesday, August 16, 2023, is part of PA IPL’s ongoing partnership with the Jewish Earth Alliance (JEA).
TOPIC:
Why We All Should Care and Advocate for a Climate Friendly Farm Bill
SPEAKER:
Michael Mehrazar – Campaign Manager at Penn Future
Michael leads an informational session on why & how to advocate for a Farm Bill that takes climate issues into account and will be positive for the environment.
Every five years Congress needs to pass a new Farm Bill. Emissions caused by farming practices are worsening the climate crisis, but farms can also be a solution. Congress is investing huge sums in agriculture, and this money should be directed to help farmers mitigate and adapt to climate change by paying farmers to reduce emissions, on-farm renewable energy, and research on soil health. As the Farm Bill is negotiated, climate change must be a priority.
76% of PA voters agree that the government should encourage farmers to use climate-friendly practices.
After learning about the importance of a climate friendly Farm Bill and why it should include the Agriculture Resilience Act, and EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program) Improvement Act, we will ask you to ask your US Representative and Senators to support these measures.
Once you learn how easy Jewish Earth Alliance makes it, through their background information and template letter, for everyone to write letters to their federal officials.
