I’m very excited to be able to be a part of the ride to DC this year. Last year I helped send off my sister Maggie and my dad Ted by riding with them on the first leg up and over the mountain to McAlevy’s Fort. This year I’m able to participate in the full ride and thankfully I’ll get to ride some of the flatter sections, too.
I’ve been biking almost my whole life, from just around the neighborhood, to riding to school and back, to riding through the dunes of the state park at the beach, to now what will be my first true long term, multi-day ride. I’ve also been involved with environmentalism and climate change most of my life. Throughout high school I was a part of the Polar Ambassadors, which among other things sought to educate about climate change, and specifically its effects on Antarctica.
My family and I have been members of St. Andrew’s for many years. In their ministry as well as through events such as pilgrimage, experiencing faith through nature has been a part of my spiritual life. Being in nature is the best way for me to slow down and think deeply and reflect. I hope this ride can help me renew that faith as well as to make a positive impact for the future.
