Chilling at Micah and Bethany’s wonderful home in McAlevy’s Fort – tired, well-fed, and listening to Micah and Antonio jamming on their guitars. Ever since Janet Swim showed us the way through Rothrock forest, this first leg of the trip has been a breeze!
This year’s trip to Washington started out from University Mennonite church, sent off by a wonderful gathering of church members and friends. Pastor Marv read us excerpts from Genesis and Psalms, explaining the responsibility that human beings have for caring for God’s creation. We also took some pictures of our shirts and were pleased to have sponsors Heather and Michael Shadow there at the send off!
Needless to say, a person wants to start a trip like this with all riders together, so this was more than a bit disconcerting – to make a long story short, we got in touch with one another and decided just to meet in McAlevy’s Fort.
The rest of us enjoyed a beautiful ride through this gem of a forest. Everything is so alive this time of year: birds, animals, even the streams were rippling with life. We didn’t mind the clouds, and only had to deal with a bit of rain. So glad that Dave Hunter and Peter Buckland could join us!
There is nothing quite so wonderful, though, as the arrival at Plowshare Produce, Micah and Bethany’s farm. It is a magical place – all the more so when friends and family have preceded us and set up a feast in their new packing shed. There was jambalaya, Cuban pork, guacamole, red beans and rice, dal… so many good things!
Tonight we sleep well – counting lambs, no doubt. Thank you all for your prayers and support!
